The best surfing
paradise on Earth
and more
Siargao is the surfing capital of the Philippines and home to some of the best beaches in Asia. The main surf area, located on Cloud 9 beach, is where the Siargao International Surfing Cup is held every year.
This teardrop shaped tropical paradise, located in the Surigao del Norte province, attracts visitors from all over the Philippines and across the globe. People come here to experience the world-class surf, enjoy the white-sand beaches, watch beautiful sunsets, and explore the natural rock and cave pools.

Siargao is a great place for families to go on vacation, couples to enjoy a honeymoon, or individuals to get away from it all. The island has a national park, tidal rock pools, and secret labyrinthine coves.
- Siargao Island is accessible via Sayak Airport, a 10-minute drive from the municipality of Del Carmen and a 40-minute drive from the main tourist town of General Luna.
- There are fast-craft ferries from the Mindanao mainland, specifically coming from Surigao City seaport, that can quickly take you to the island. The fast-craft ride usually takes an hour and a half while regular boats take three hours to reach Siargao.
- Travellers can also bring their private cars or vehicles via a four-hour passenger and cargo RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off boat) trip that sails daily from Surigao City to Dapa town on Siargao Island.
- Visitors who miss the ferry are advised to avoid the small outrigger canoes offered by local fishermen. This area is the world’s second deepest part of the ocean.
- Siargao Island is motorcycle and bike-friendly. Enjoy the freedom of exploring the island on two wheels; it’s small enough to traverse in only one day on a motorcycle.
- Go surfing at one of the local beaches. Because of the different wave breaks, there are beaches for all levels. Jacking Horse and Quicksilver are good for beginners, while Cloud 9 beach is recommended for advanced surfers. Cloud 9 is considered to be among the world’s Top 10 surf sites comparable to Hawaii and Bali.
- Take a stroll along the boardwalk at Cloud 9. Extending far into the sea, the boardwalk leads to a three-story viewing platform where you can watch the surfing enthusiasts and catch the sunrise or sunset.
- Explore Sohoton Cove, a cluster of small islets with lagoons, limestone caves, and rock formations. Go swimming & diving with stingless jellyfish in a maze of interconnected clearwater pools in a cave.
- Go island hopping with a three-island tour and see Naked Island, Daku Island, and Guyam Island in a single day.
- Enjoy the Siargao nightlife, in which different bars open every night, allowing neighbouring bars their time to shine. Every night there is a party in a different location.
- Go cliff jumping at Magpopongko Tidal Pools or try the Tarzan Jump on Maasin River.
- Ride on an outrigger boat or a motorized-Banca (locally known as Baroto) to Sugba Lagoon, a lagoon surrounded by blue-green waters and limestone-karst domed-like hills, the perfect place for swimming, SUP, board diving, and rafting.
- Spend a lazy day at the pristine Pacifico Beach, a white-sand beach facing the Pacific where you can try its organic savoury dishes and flavourful desserts. It’s also the best place for seasonal surfing. You can also visit Alegria Beach, a 5-kilometre stretch of white-sand beach, off the town of Santa Monica.
- Shop at a Local Tabo-an, a flea market where local farmers and artisans sell their produce and crafts.
- Magpupungko Rock Pools are natural pools created from water left behind in a coastal rock formation when the ocean retreats at low tide. The water is bright blue, it’s great for swimming and snorkelling. You can see a variety of fish and other marine life underwater.
- Tayangban Cave Pool is dark, but the guide will carry a torch to illuminate the beautiful stalactite formations inside. You can use the r opes and bamboo to traverse and navigate. Emerge to a beautiful, emerald green cenote with some fantastic spots for cliff jumping.
- The bent tree of Maasin Village bends out over a river. Locals have attached a swing to it so that you can jump from it into the water below.
- The Sea of Palms is an elevated viewpoint that looks out over coconut trees and is a good spot to view the sunrise or sunset.
- The restaurants on Siargao Island are known for their fresh and healthy food options. The cafés, bars, and restaurants all serve a wide variety of local and international cuisine.
- Enjoy a seafood lunch on Dahu Island, the second spot on the island-hopping tour.
- Shaka Cafe sells a healthy selection of smoothies, fruit bowls, and juices.
- Eat a coconut that’s fresh from a tree. It’s always readily available and when served as a beverage, acts as the ultimate thirst quencher.
- Enjoy some Japanese food at Sushi Nori. Choose from poke bowls, sashimi, and sushi.
- Kermit Surf Resort and Restaurant Siargao sell Spanish food.
- Experience the island’s local street food or seafood grills such as BBQ chicken, pork, marlin, and isaw (skewered pork or chicken intestines).
- Try the traditional Filipino dishes such as Kinilaw (a local ceviche) and Sisig at small carenderias or ‘turo-turo’ (small local eateries or restaurants).
- Sample the signature dishesat Cafe Loka
- The General Luna neighborhood has many places where you can shop for souvenirs, clothing jewelry, swimwear, surf gear, surfboards, and local or Philippine skincare products made from coconut or local ingredients.
- Bring home some samples of the local poot-poot ginamos (fermented salt fish anchovies), a typical food and appetizer.
- Fat Lips Surf Shop sells high-quality beach and surf gear as well as offering rentals on surfboards so you can enjoy your Siargao surfing experience.
- ISLA.PH Outlet shop produces and sells resort wear, beach towels, bags, and accessories. Shop here and transform yourself into an islander.

This very minimalist island is only a few minutes away by boat from General Luna. It has a small sandbar and about 100 meters of sand. Daku Island is the biggest in the trio and has fine bone-white sand, emerald waters, and swaying coconut trees; all of which make it the perfect spot for lunch.
